Traverse City - Shops, Food, Beach, and Boats

We took a trip into Traverse City today to check out downtown.  What a great place!  They have a vibrant downtown shopping area with lots of trendy shops, restaurants and pubs.  There are several festivals and activities throughout the year and people get involved.  Most of the action centers on Front Street and the lake front/canal area.

I have noticed a trend that people "up north" seem to celebrate summer more so than their neighbors south of the Mason Dixon Line.  I think those of us that live in a southern climate don't appreciate what it is to not have ice, snow, and cold several months out of the year.  It just seems that when the weather warms, people get out and enjoy it.  They celebrate!

Looking east on Front Street.
After window shopping for a while on Front Street, we decided it was time for lunch.  I had read on Trip Advisor about a food truck that was very highly rated.  It seems that this truck and several others hang out on the 400 block of Front Street at a place called The Little Fleet.  There were 5 or 6 food trucks/trailers parked in this lot offering everything from sushi, to BBQ.  There is a full bar in The Little Fleet building with tables inside and out.

Food Trucks and The Little Fleet Building in the back.

The truck I wanted to find is called Roaming Harvest. This truck is the mobile version of the highly rated Harvest Resturant also located in Traverse City.

The Roaming Harvest offered several types of tacos and I had my eye on the much acclaimed Pulled Pork Tacos.  The Korean Beef Taco also sounded good so I mixed my order and had one of each.  While the beef taco was very, very, good, the pork taco was simply phenominal.   I wish I could tell you what it had on it but I can't so a picture is worth a thousand words!

The left taco is pulled pork.  The one on the right is the beef.
Washed it all down with a craft beer from the bar and I was good to go.  Diane had an all natural beef burger from a different truck and it was one of the best she's had in a long time.  Make this a stop on your trip to Traverse City.  You'll be glad you did!

There is also a beach, marina, and waterfront park on the shores of Lake Michigan.

We didn't know, but there was a retro boat show and the annual film festival in progress.  We took a walk through the boat show area. Saw some awesome and unusual restored boats.

Finally, there was this contraption running around on the streets.  It plays music and the "riders" make it go by pedaling like on a bike.  Music, Beer, and Pedaling..... gotta love it!
