After four relaxing days at Little Pee Dee, we headed out again working our way toward the Outer Banks of North Carolina to check off a bucket list item. On the way, we stopped off in Keenly, NC to give Beastly a little TLC in the form of an oil change and some new filters. The Speedco did a great job and had us in and out in about 3 hours. Not bad since there were several rigs in front of us. Great Service and a good price. I discovered that since my engine is in the rear, I had to enter the service bay from the front side in order to position things properly for the service tech. Pulling in wasn't an issue. Backing out was an experience!

Upon arriving in the Outer Banks, we stayed four days at the
OBX Campground in Kill Devil Hills. This is on the north end of the barrier islands and is close to most everything on that end. You can actually see the
Wright Brothers Memorial from the road to the campground. Happy, happy, happy since this was a bucket list item for me!

These guys were dedicated to making powered flight work. They lived in sparse conditions while making hundreds of test flights with gliders and such. Can you imagine the weather in the Outer Banks in December 1903. I assure you I didn't see any central heat and air in their work camp mock ups. And to think that just over a hundred years later we can go coast to coast in 4 hours. Amazing!
Another planned stop for us was Rodanthe which is about an hour drive south of Kill Devil Hills. There is some nice scenery on the way with the ocean and all of the dunes.
Jockey Ridge State Park
is a nice stop where you can climb a huge sand dune, fly kites, camp, and much more. Check out the link for more info. Rodanthe is a small coastal town where the movie
Nights in Rodanthe was filmed. My bride asked to go here on her birthday to see the house that was in the movie. There are no signs or anything that we could find to direct us there so we were looking for a house that looked like this -

Fortunately, Rodanthe is a small place and the house stands out with the blue shutters. It sits among several other beach houses on a small alley right beside the dunes and ocean. It is actually for sale if you're interested. They say if you have to ask the price of something you can't afford it. So I didn't!
We found some interesting ocean stuff later in the day and we took a drive to Duck the next day. Come on back and see what we found!
